John Leahy, of St. Augustine, Florida and formerly of Chester, N.Y., entered into eternal rest surrounded by his loving family on November 10, 2014. He was 87.
The son of the late Michael "Mick" and Elizabeth Falvey Leahy, he was born on March 20, 1927 in Lixnaw, County Kerry, Ireland. After immigrating to the U.S., John proudly served his new country during the Korean War.
John was a member of the Knights of Columbus; the Kiwanis Club, the VFW and an active member of St. Anastasia Church in St. Augustine , Florida. John will be remembered for getting posthumous citizenship for the Irish military who served in the Korean War; his great sense of humor; love of Irish sports; charitable work; and devotion to his family, faith and friends.
He is survived by his wife of 20 years, Mary Ellen "Eileen" Leahy; his children Lesa (David) Walsh; Michael; John "Frank" Leahy and his wife Pattie Whelan. His stepchildren: Maureen (John) Segreti; Michael (Pattie) Diggin; Kathleen (Roman) Catalino; Patrick (Becky) Diggin. His grandchildren: Kyle and Kiera Walsh; Connor Leahy; Cara and Alanna Taubman; Katie Anthony, Krista and Kaitlyn Segreti; Michael, Danny and Shawn Diggin; Katie, Kelly and Robert Catalino and Kelsey Runnalls. He is also survived by his brothers Maurice, Michael and William of Ireland; his sister-in-law Ann Leahy and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
John was predeceased by his first wife Teresa, his daughter Patricia, his sister Bridget Cantillon and his brother Patrick.
Visitation hours will be held on Thursday November 13, 2014 from 2-4 and 7-9 P.M. at the Lippincott Funeral Home, Inc. 92 Main St. Chester, New York.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday November 14, 2014 at 10 A.M. at St. Columba R.C. Church 27 High St. Chester, N.Y.
Burial will be held at the convenience of the family.
A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at St. Anastasia Church in St. Augustine, FL. at a later date.
In lieu of flowers , memorial contributions may be made to St. Anastasia Catholic Church Building Fund (St. Augustine Catholic Church, 5205 A1A South St. Augustine, FL. 32080.
