Dorothy "Dottie" Mae Behrendt passed away at the age of 82 on Saturday May 9, 2015 in Sayre, Pennsylvania.
The daughter of the late Clyde Dollaway Sr. and Loretta Fuller, she was born November 22, 1932 in Paterson, New Jersey.
Dottie was a longtime Goshen resident and graduated from Goshen High School. In 1952, she married Joseph Sherlock and together they built their home and raised five children. After her husband passed away in 1973, Dottie provided loving childcare for local families. At the age of 45, she bravely returned to school at B.O.C.E.S. to become a Licensed Practical Nurse. She was affectionately called "Mom" by her much younger fellow students. Following graduation, she worked for fifteen years at Orange County Infirmary. In 1980, she married Carl Behrendt, sharing the next 35 years together. After retiring, Dottie and Carl traveled extensively in Europe and cruised the Caribbean. She was an avid reader and enjoyed houseplants, painting, knitting and crocheting. Eventually, she found her rainbow's end peacefully surrounded by nature in Wyalusing, PA.
Dottie was predeceased by her sister: Mildred Macleay and her adoptive father: George Pearsall. Survivors include her husband Carl; her children: Joseph Jr. and his wife Marie of Pennsylvania; James Sr. and his wife Nancy of New Jersey; Thomas and his wife Laura of Arizona; Jo-Ann and her husband Jeffrey of New York; Le-nel and her husband Keevin Sr. of Illinois and Bill and his wife Kate of Missouri. She is also survived by her grandchildren: Heather; James; Joseph; Raven; Crystal; Stephen; Amber; Keevin; Stephenie; Ashley; Joseph; Tyler; Britanie; Sean and Kiera, as well as sixteen great-grandchildren, many nieces, nephews, cousins and her lifelong friend Ginny Nelson.
Visitation hours will be held on Thursday May 21, 2015 from 2-4 and 7-9 P.M. at the Lippincott Funeral Chapel, Inc. 107 Murray Ave. Goshen, New York.
Services will be held on Friday May 22, 2015 at 11 A.M. at the Lippincott Funeral Chapel, Inc.
Burial will be in Wallkill Cemetery Town of Wallkill, N.Y.
