Obituary of Betty Jane Vernooy Weymer

Betty Jane Vernooy-Weymer, a long time resident of Middletown, NY passed away peacefully on Saturday, 1 March 2014 at Valley View Nursing Home, Goshen, NY at the age of 88 after a long battle with Alzheimer Disease. Betty was born on June 8, 1925, she was the daughter of Charles and Charlotte (Irwin) Van Kleeck, she graduated from Middletown High School and the college at Delhi, NY, with Dietian degree. On April 14,1946 she married her high school sweetheart, Kenneth H. Vernooy, Sr who preceeded her in death Nov 24,1983. On November 26, 1996 she married Edwin Weymer who passed away on Nov. 24, 2011. Betty was preceeded in death by her sister Corinne Canfield and two brothers, Albert and Charles Van Kleeck. Also preceding her were her two English Spaniels Duffy 1 & 2, she enjoyed every minute she had with them. She retired as Manager of the Middletown office of Dunn & Bradstreet, Inc in 1986 after working her way from Manifolder. . As a young woman she worked as a waitress at the Coney Island Restaurant. Betty was a long time member of the First Congregational Church where she started attending Sunday School at age three. Besides serving as a Trustee and a Sunday School teacher, she also was a member of the Puritan Guild and Women's Fellowship. Betty was a member as well as a officer in the Middletown American Legion Auxilary Post 51, as well as 8 & 40. She also enjoyed the many activities at Mulberry House with the Middletown Seniors. When not involved with her outside activities she also enjoyed studying the Bible, crocheting, embroidery, crossword puzzles, gardening as well as reading. Betty is survived by her two sons, Thomas Charles (TC) and his companion, Linda Crawford of Middletown and Kenneth H. (Butch) and his wife Donna who Betty affectionately called her "daughter by love" of Cuddlebackville, NY. She also leaves behind to mourn her two brothers, Stanley Van Kleeck of Middletown, her brother Paul Eldred of Calabash, NC and her two sisters, Sonja Vleer and Linda Kanoff both of Glen Spey. Betty is also survived by many nieces and nephews to who she was affectionately called "Antique Bet." Bet was also the God-Mother to Danny Canfield, Donna Johnson, Nancy Adkins, Betty Jane Cranston, and Bill Kanoff. In 1948 as a young fairly newlywed couple they made a major decision that changed their lives as they decided to return to Betty's family home to care for her ill Mother as well as care for and raise her five siblings still at home. Betty's faith was strong and gave her strength to see her through tough times her entire life. Family was very important to her and she loved all family gatherings. Loving, caring, generous and classy are words we use to describe her. She will be missed by those who love her and will always be in our hearts. The family is thankful for the care given to her by the nurses and aides on Grand Avenue at Valley View Nursing Center & Rehab, Goshen, NY. We would also like to give a special thanks to Sherry Jackson, RN as well as Dr. Gonzalez. Visitation will be 6 March 2014, Thursday, 3 to 6 PM at Ralston- Lippincott-Hasbrouck-Ingrassia Funeral Home, Inc. 72 West Main St., Middletown, NY Funeral services will be Friday, March 7 2014 at 11:00 AM at St. John's Lutheran Church, 391 Mt.
