Obituary of Joseph C. Depew

Joseph Courtland Depew, Jr., age 94 of Westtown, NY passed away peacefully on May 29, 2018. The son of the late Joseph Courtland Depew and Edna Myers Depew, Joe was born on February 17, 1924 in Middletown, NY and was a lifelong resident of the area. Joe was a retired self-employed skilled electrician and plumber with his own business in Orange County, NY. He not only took pride in his work, but truly relished the friends he made during his time in business. Joe was a Veteran of the United States Army, proudly serving his country and his fellow soldiers during World War II where he served in Europe. He received the Army Good Conduct Medal and the European–African–Middle Eastern Campaign Medal. He was a member of American Legion Post 151 in Middletown, NY. Joe was deeply loved by his family and friends. He will always be remembered as a smart and hard worker and for his love of traveling, camping, golfing, and farming. Survivors include his children Ronald Depew and his wife, Joyce of Florida; Patricia Depew Hayes and her husband, Kenneth of California and Courtland J. Depew of Alaska. He was predeceased by his daughter, Constance A. Depew. Joe is further survived by 7 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren. His brother Robert Depew and his wife Nancy; his sister Catherine Mitton and her husband Rodney; his sister-in-law, Sharon Depew (Louis); and his many nieces and nephews. He was the widower of Ruth Jacobs Depew of Westtown, NY, who died March 31, 2015. He was predeceased by his brothers James and his wife, Eleanor; Thomas and his wife, Jane; Raymond and his wife Evelyn; Louis Depew; his sister Bertha Green and her husband, Louis; and his daughter-in-law, Marlene Depew (Courtland). Visitation hours will be held on Thursday, June 7th from 4-7 PM and Friday, June 8th from 10-11 AM at the Ralston-Lippincott-Hasbrouck-Ingrassia Funeral Home, Inc., 72 West Main St., Middletown, N.Y. A Funeral Service in memory of Joe will be held on Friday, June 8th at 11 AM at the funeral home. Interment with military honors will follow at the family plot in Pine Hill Cemetery, Route 6 at Kirbytown Road, Middletown, Town of Wawayanda, N.Y.
