CECILIA EUNICE SWANN WALSH
MARCH 24, 1920 - AUGUST 25, 2014
Elant at GOSHEN, NY
Cecilia Eunice (Swann) Walsh left this world on Aug. 25 to go sing with the angels. The following day her oldest sister, Mary Unger, joined her. Cecilia was the seventh of the nine children of John Oliver and Anna Augusta (Carter) Swann. She was born in Charles County, Maryland. The family later moved to Pennsylvania. Cecilia trained three years to become an R.N. nurse, and served as a Navy nurse, where she met her husband, Francis Joseph Walsh, a Naval veteran of WWII. They lived on Long Island until their move to Summit, N.J. in 1961. Cecilia worked as a nurse until her mid-sixties, at Overlook Hospital in Summit, and at the VA Medical Center in East Orange, N.J. Cecilia is survived by her five children - Cecilia Frances Walsh, Mary Yorio and husband Richard, Evelyn Walsh, Irene Rodriguez, and Michael Walsh and wife Teresa. She is also survived by her ten grandchildren - Cynthia Karamitis, Elizabeth Kim, Margaret Nikolov, Gregory Karamitis, Christine Yorio, Susan Fenn, Kelly Bellitti, Stephanie Yorio, Madeleine Walsh, Francis Walsh, and her eight great grandchildren. She is also survived by her only remaining sibling, Sister Joan Swann, and many nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her husband Francis, and her siblings Anna Seely, Catherine Tyre, Agnes McCartney, Joseph Swann, John Swann, and William Swann. She will be missed by all who knew her, for her wonderful singing, jokes, artwork, and stories about herself and her family. She always delighted people with her bargains and creative ways of doing things. Most of all, we will miss her laughter and sunny disposition. The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to the staff and residents at Elant in Goshen, who went out of their way to make her last eighteen months one of the happiest times of her life, filled with warmth, caring, and friendship. In morning conversations with family members, she was always eager to talk at length about the previous day's fun and conversations. Cecilia will be remembered at a Memorial Mass at St. Teresa of Avila's Roman Catholic Church in Summit, N.J. on Dec. 14, 2014 at 5:30 p.m. A second Mass will be held at Sacred Heart Villa, Reading, PA (time and date still to be determined)
