Obituary of Martin S. Nowak

Martin S. Nowak Sr. a retired employee of the NYS Department of Transportation in Poughkeepsie, NY and lifelong resident of the area, passed away Tuesday October 3, 2017 at Valley View Center in Goshen, NY. He was 81.
The son of the late Martin (1945) and Dorothy Mosher Nowak Carpenter, he was born on March 17, 1936 in Middletown, New York. He was also predeceased by his stepfather Eugene Carpenter who raised him with Dorothy after the death of his father.
Martin was a life member of St. John's Lutheran Church and was a graduate of Middletown High School Class of 1954; a life member of the BPOE Lodge 1097; a 63 year member and a past president of the Ontario Hose Company; he served as Secretary Treasurer, as well as being a member of the Orange County Baseball Umpire Assn., having umpired many baseball and softball games. He played on the very first OCCC baseball team in 1955; he was a founding member of the Town of Wallkill Little League in 1972 where he managed for many years and won many championships. He also played for many years in the Middletown Firemen's Softball League and bowled in the Middletown Firemen's Bowling League.
Survivors include his wife of 58 years Elinor Konrad Nowak at home; his two children: Martin Nowak Jr. and his wife Joann of Middletown; Lisa Sorrentino and her husband Joseph of Pine Bush; his grandchildren: Amanda & Alissa Nowak; Martin Nowak III; Geremiah, Matthew & Jennifer Sorrentino; his brother: Dr. Richard Ovens and his wife Rita of New Paltz; his aunt: Helen Lusardi of Middletown as well as several nephews and cousins.
Visitation will be held from 2-4 & 6-9 PM on Wednesday October 11, 2017 at the Ralston-Lippincott-Hasbrouck-Ingrassia Funeral Home, Inc. 72 West Main Street Middletown, NY.
Funeral Services will be held at 10 am on Thursday October 12, 2017 at St. John's Lutheran Church 391 Mt. Hope Road Middletown, NY. Burial will follow in Scotchtown Cemetery in Scotchtown, NY.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to St. John's Lutheran Church Building Fund 391 Mt. Hope Rd. Middletown, NY 10940.
