Millicent Vivian Johns Circleville, NY formerly of Andes, NY Millicent V. Johns of Circleville and formerly of Andes, NY, a longtime educator, died on June 8, 2017 in Orange Regional Medical Center in Middletown, NY. She was 98. The daughter of the late D and Petra Marie Pedersen Joslin, Millie was born on February 18, 1919 on Cabin Hill in Delancey, NY. She was the youngest of six children and was predeceased by her brothers and sisters. Millie was the widow of Lloyd "Red" Thomas Johns Sr. She graduated from Russell Sage College in Troy, NY with a Bachelor Degree in Physical Education and later went on to earn a Master's Degree in Special Education. Millie met her future husband Red Johns while teaching physical education in Walton, NY. Upon their marriage they took jobs teaching in Andes, NY and settled down to raise a family. Millie was an educator and coach in the Andes and Margaretville School Districts, teaching Special Education for many years. She took her students to the Special Olympics every year and made sure they were represented on the Student Council and other groups. She served multiple terms as the Mayor of Andes. Millie was a longtime, devoted member of the Andes Presbyterian Church. She taught Sunday school,sang in the church choir and served as an officer in the Forum Society and an Elder on the Session. Millie will always be remembered as a wonderful pie maker with a forward looking sense of fashion. She starred in many local musical/variety shows as a singer and dancer taking tap lessons at age 70. Millie was described in a newspaper article as "an adventurous, free spirit in a tiny and beautifully proportioned body." She deeply loved her family, her pets, and the community she was raised in. Survivors include her sons Lloyd T. Johns Jr. and his wife Sally of Elkton, Maryland and Peter Johns and his wife Debbie of Circleville, NY, and by her beloved grandsons Nicholas Johns and his wife Joanne and Martin Johns who all currently reside in Colorado. She is also survived by loving nieces, nephews and cousins. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Jayne Reynolds, her dear friend from Bloomingburg, NY and to all those friends and neighbors in Andes who took her to appointments, brought her dinner, encouraged her to keep singing or helped to make her latter years rich, healthy, and satisfying. Funeral services will be held on Saturday June 17, 2017 at 1:30 P.M. at the Andes Presbyterian Church 71 Delaware Avenue Andes, NY. Burial will follow in Andes Cemetery Andes, NY.
