Obituary of Gerald Zazzero

Gerald Zazzero, a retired Lieutenant for the Middletown Police Department and lifelong resident of the area, passed away Monday December 12, 2016 at home surrounded by his family. He was 87. The son of the late Natale and Camille Cosco Zazzero, he was born October 16, 1929 in Middletown, New York. Gerald was a graduate of Middletown High School in 1947. He was a veteran of the US ARMY during the Korean War. He served his community as a Police Officer and Bureau Commander for 30 years, retiring as Lieutenant in 1987, as well as working security at OCCC for 42 years. He was also a member and usher at St. Joseph's RC Church in Middletown, NY. Survivors include his wife of 57 years: Jennie Barone Zazzero; his five children: Gerald Zazzero Jr. and his wife Dawn; Natalie Duffy and her husband Andrew; Mary Jane Zazzero and her companion Christopher Gamb; Jean Marie Rumpf and her husband Robert and Diane Villegas. Gerald is further survived by his eleven grandchildren: Gerald Zazzero III; Vincent Zazzero; Holly Duffy; Patrick Duffy; Chelsae Polizzano (Brian); Eric Donley(Jordan); Dianna Rumpf; Nicholas Rumpf; Danielle Villegas; Deanna Villegas & Valerie Villegas, as well as two great grandchildren: Owen and Eamon Donley; his in-laws: Barbara Zazzero ; Albert andValerie Barone and Dee Barone his nieces Mary Jo Fanders(Fred), Barbara Jean Brunning(Ben) and his nephew Anthony Barone. He was predeceased in death by his siblings: Felix Zazzero; Mary Auterino and his brother and Sister-in-law: Domenico and Patricia Barone. The family wishes to extend their heartfelt thanks to his caregiver, Grace Otieno and the staff of Hospice of Orange and Sullivan Counties. Visitation will be held from 4-8 PM on Thursday December 15, 2016 at Ralston-Lippincott-Hasbrouck-Ingrassia Funeral Home, Inc. 72 West Main Street Middletown, NY 10940. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 AM on Friday December 16, 2016 at St. Joseph RC Church in Middletown. Entombment will follow at St. Joseph's Cemetery.
