Obituary of Arthur Brooks Church

Arthur Brooks Church, age 64, a Goshen resident for more than 30 years, passed away peacefully at home on August 23, 2013, surrounded by his family.
Born in Boston, MA on February 27, 1949, Brooks was the son of Richard Ashcroft Church (deceased) and Dorothy Brooks Church of Walpole, ME. Brooks married his wife Diane Stewart Church in 1972 and moved to Goshen in 1978. He worked for Bon Secours Hospital for more than 20 years as a Physical Therapist. When not at work, Brooks enjoyed playing tennis and could often be found on the tennis courts at Orange Hollow Racquet club as well as Orange County Park. He also enjoyed fixing and tinkering with computers and was known to help his friends and family with their computers. Brooks also looked forward to his trips to Maine to spend time with friends and family.
In addition to his wife of 40 years, Diane Church, Brooks is survived by his children, Amy S. Church of Goshen, NY and Brooks Church Jr. of Framingham, MA; His granddaughter, Jillian Church; His mother Dorothy Brooks Church of Walpole, ME; His sister Elizabeth Moorhouse of Newcastle, ME and her husband Henry Moorhouse; His brother Richard Church of Medfield, MA and his wife Marilyn Smith Church; As well as several nieces and nephews. Brooks was a devoted husband, father and "grampie" and will be missed dearly by his family, and all who knew and loved him.
There were so many people that helped Brooks throughout his treatment. Thank you to Dr. John Carey and his office staff in Goshen, NY; Dr. Peter Allen at Sloan Kettering; Dr. Eileen O'Reilly at Sloan Kettering; Dr. Thomas Eanelli and the staff at the Department of Radiation Oncology at Orange Regional Medical Center; and Lynn Thomas, RN, with Hospice of Orange and Sullivan Counties. A very special thank you to Dr. Robert Dinsmore and his staff, and to all the staff at Crystal Run Healthcare. Your continuous support was very much appreciated by Brooks and his family.
At Brooks' request there will be a cremation but no official services will be held. A celebration of life will be held for friends and family at a later date to be announced.
