Jay A. Brown, 78, of Middletown, NY. The son of Sidney and Sydney Brown, Jay (also known as Jim) grew up in Manchester, CT. He graduated from Cal State in Los Angeles with a BA in journalism and served in the U.S. Navy from 1956-62 aboard the USS Northampton and the USS Iowa BB-61. Jim worked as an Assistant for Congressman Thomas Rees; reporter and editor for the Sacramento Bee, and The Hartford Times; Manager Special Projects for American Cyanamid; Public AffairsManagement for Shell Oil; president and publisher of Cineman Syndicate,serving newspapers worldwide with movie reviews. He was a ham radio enthusiast (W2GYI) and loved connecting with other HAMS locally and around the world. Jim was a member of the Orange County Democratic Committee and ran for councilman in the town of Wallkill. He was responsible for helping implement the Ward system in the town and received the Distinguished Service Award for this accomplishment. Jim was also a member of the Human Rights Commission. He had a keen sense of humor, a passion for discussing politics and history and loved spending time with his family, taking pictures of everyone.He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, brother and uncle.
He is survived by his wife Phyllis (Smiley) of 47 years; daughter Barbara Moss and her husband, Jon ofGlen Ridge, NJ; son Rick and his wife, Belindaof Scottsdale, AZ and 5 grandchildren: Emma and Zachary Moss; Harrison, Oliver and Alexander Brown; sister Carolyn Kiefer (Charles), brother-in-law Bruce Smiley (Wendy) and sister-in-law Nicki Good (Gilbert) as well as many cousins, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews.

Graveside services will be at the Orange County Veterans Cemetery 111 Craigville, Rd, Goshen, NY on June 13th at 2 pm.
