It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Edward "Steady Edy" Gardner on March 20, 2013.
The son of the late Eddie and Leola Gardner, he was born on April 16, 1935 in Lake Wales, Florida.
Ed was a longtime resident of Middletown as well as a veteran of the U.S. ARMY. He worked as a childcare supervisor at the Goshen Annex for boys. He was a senior TA at the Mid-Hudson Forensic Psychiatric Center before becoming chief of security at Central NY Psychiatric center in Utica, NY from where he retired. Ed was a member of the law enforcement coalition and volunteer chairperson for SEFA. He worked as a monitor for the school district at Maple Hill School since 1999 where he adored the children and brightened their day with a smile.
Survivors include his loving wife Natalie of 52 years; his 6 children: Richelle Hilliard (Wayne); Marion Atmore (Lonnie); Renee Burrell (companion James Thomas); Darren (companion Rosalind King); Tracey Clark (Adrian); Lina Burgos. He is further survived by his 3 sisters: Bertha McCray; Alma Washington; Betty Smith all of the state of Florida; his brother: Ernest Gardner (Michelle) of Tennessee; his close friends Dan Whitten and Robert Sanders; his goddaughter Sandra Martin; as well as a host of nieces; nephews; grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was predeceased by his sons: Eddie Lee Jr. and Ricky Gardner.
Visitation will be held from 10- 11 AM on Monday March 25, 2013 at the St. John's AME Zion Church in Middletown, NY.
Funeral Services will be held at 11 AM on Monday March 25, 2013 at the Church.
Burial will be at Wallkill Cemetery in Phillipsburg, NY.
