MARY CATHERINE INGRASSIA
January 15, 1958-May 16, 2012
Middletown - Mary Catherine "Mary Kay" Ingrassia passed away peacefully at home wrapped in her Mother's Loving arms on Wednesday May 16, 2012, she was 54 years old. The loving daughter of Dorothy Hogan Ingrassia and the late Louis J. Ingrassia Sr., Mary was born in Middletown New York on January 15, 1958.
Mary was a graduate of Middletown High School Class of 1976. She also graduated as a Licensed Practical Nurse through the Orange County BOCES nursing program. Mary spent her life devoted to the loving care of others. Throughout her life Mary worked at various Nursing facilities always migrating to her greatest love, Elder Nursing Care. Mary worked at the Montgomery Nursing Home in Montgomery New York. Palm Gardens in St. Petersburg Florida, Middletown Park Manor in Middletown New York and she was currently employed as the Staffing Coordinator for Crystal Run Healthcare. Mary's greatest asset was her calm and re-assuring demeanor; she treated every patient that she ever cared for as an individual. Mary loved working with Senior Citizens as they entered the most fragile stage of their lives. She was a master of caring for those who were suffering from Alzheimer's or Dementia. Her bedside manner was second to none, Mary got to know all of her patients as the person they were not the person they were becoming. Mary always took a devoted interest in the person in her care, no matter what their affliction. Mary got to know their families by their first names and would make everyone she cared for part of her extended family. Mary's kind and loving spirit is something that we will always cherish and forever miss.
Mary was a breast cancer survivor and she never hesitated to share her experiences and knowledge with those that were stricken with this terrible disease. She became a member of CROC, Citizens Reunited to Overcome Cancer, and loved going to their meetings to share her experiences with others.
Mary was also a very religious individual. She was a devout parishioner of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Middletown, and never missed the Saturday evening Mass with her Mother Dorothy. Mary was also a member of the Court Rosemary No. 681, Catholic Daughters of the Americas
Although never blessed with children of her own, Mary Kay was the most doting Aunt and best friend to Justin Garretto, Louis J. Ingrassia III, Andrea Ingrassia and Sara Matos. "Aunt Kate" treated them as if they were her own; she loved to hear the stories of their day whether it was about college, sports or schoolwork. When she would say "How was your day?" she truly wanted to know and be involved in their lives. They are all heartbroken with her loss.
Mary was dear friend to all, never forgetting a birthday, anniversary or any special occasion either with a small gift or greeting card. Mary had the qualities that we wish we could have; Love, patience, understanding and a true belief in the human spirit.
Mary is survived at home by her loving Mother Dorothy Hogan Ingrassia, her sisters; Marjorie Ingrassia Garretto and her husband David, Louisa M. Ingrassia, Dorothy Ingrassia Matos and her husband Abel, and her brother Louis J. Ingrassia Jr. and his wife Jacqueline, all of Middletown. Also surviving is Mary's dear friend Barbara Donnelly, Uncle Angelo Ingrassia and Aunt Judy of Middletown and Uncle Jack Morrison of Ocala Florida, as well as numerous cousins and friends that Mary touched in some way along the way.
Our family would also like to send a special Thank You to Dr. Noemi Gonzalez-Klayman, who was not only Mary's primary physician, but a dear and trusted friend who guided Mary through her illness and our family through this difficult time.
Mary was predeceased by her Loving Father Louis J. Ingrassia Sr., and her adoring Nephew Jaden Abel Matos, who now, true to her beliefs are waiting at Heaven's Gate to welcome her home into their loving arms.
Our family would also like to take this opportunity to thank The Town of Wallkill Ambulance Corp., Mobile Life Support Services, The Town of Wallkill Police Department and our Cousins Anthony and Shanon Ingrassia for all their assistance during this difficult time.
