Obituary of Michael J. Weisgarber
Please share a memory of Michael to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Michael J. Weisgarber of Chester, a retired police officer with the N.Y. City Police Department, died on September 5, 2015. He was 79.
The son of the late Michael and Suzanna Geisler Weisgarber, he was born on November 19, 1935 in the Bronx, New York. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army.
He was the widower of Clare Weisgarber.
He was a member of St. Columba R.C. Church in Chester.
Dad proudly served as a member of the N.Y.C. Police Department for 25 years, spending his entire career in the Bronx. Following his retirement, he went to work at Walden Books in Warwick for two years. Upon leaving Walden Books he took a position at Ramapo College of N.J. as a security guard. He spent the next 20 years at Ramapo until his retirement in 2013. While at Ramapo, Dad was well known on campus as the friendly guy in the booth. Happy to lend a helping hand to anyone who needed help.
After the passing of his wife Clare, Dad was fortunate to meet his companion Jane Schroek. Dad and Nanna Jane, as she was known, spent the last 12 years together traveling, seeing plays, dining out and spending time with friends and family. When he wasn't busy, Dad liked to go to Sandy Hook, his favorite beach and just sit and relax listening to the waves and maybe do a little fishing.
Survivors include his companion Jane Schroek of N.J. His children: Michael Weisgarber of Suffern, JenniferMacCagnan of Goshen; Andrew Malone and his wife Sheila of Cochester, CT. and Matthew Weisgarber and his wife Colleen of Warwick, N.Y. His five grandchildren Matthew MacCagnan; Clare MacCagnan; Aine Malone; Meaghan Malone and Ruby Weisgarber. He is also survived by his sister Susanna Lauro of Minnesota and many nieces and nephews.
