Francis (Junie) Edwards a lifelong Middletown resident passed away on April, 20th 2015 just 6 days shy of his 91st birthday. Junie was the son of the late Francis Edwards and Louise Lyons Edwards.
Junie was a letter carrier in downtown Middletown for the U.S. Postal Service for 36 years. During World War II, Junie served his country with the 10th Mountain Division. He was wounded in action in Italy and received a Purple Heart.
An avid amateur Athlete, Junie lettered in Football and Basketball for Middletown High School. Junie refereed soccer and basketball and was a lifetime member of Orange County Country Club. He made three holes in one. He was an usher at St Joseph's RC church, a member of the
Elk's and volunteered delivering Meals on Wheels with the Office of the Aging.
Junie was a devoted husband to his wife of 64 years, Kathleen (Kit), and was a loving caring father to children Jeanne, Carol, June and Tom. What he enjoyed most in life was spending time with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He and Kit loved to travel abroad and they enjoyed cruises.
Survivors are daughters Carol Bianchi, June Voegelin and her husband Bill; his son Tom Edwards and his wife Stacy; son-in-law Peter Masci. Survivors also include his 8 grandchildren; Jonathan Ban (Isabelle), Carolyn Ban-Biggins (Chris), Jocelyn Ban-Gleason(Michael), Peter Masci (Jenn) Jessica Masci, Emma Voegelin (David), Kelley Voegelin, Donovan Edwards and 9 great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his daughter Jeanne Masci and his wife Kathleen Edwards.
Junie was a generous, blue eyed, fun loving Irishman, quick witted, who lived his long life to the fullest. He will be sorely missed because all who knew him loved him. We wish he was still here for 10 more years!
The family would like to thank Dr. Ferguson and the Elant staff for the kindness and
Caring to Junie. Also to Debbie Estrada, his homecare aide of 10 years for her love,
Friendship and care to Junie in his last years.
A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 11 AM on Monday April 27, 2015 at St. Joseph RC Church 149 Cottage Street Middletown, NY. A celebration of life will follow at 12:30 at the Elk's Club Highland Ave, Middletown, NY.
