Obituary of Barbara M. Paffenroth

Please share a memory of Barbara to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Barbara M. Paffenroth, 82, of Middletown, NY went home to be with her Lord with her daughters at her side on June 4th, 2024. The daughter of Anna and Fred Warren, she was born on July 23, 1941 in Middletown, NY. Barbara graduated from Middletown High School. She proudly retired from Sears after decades of employment. Our Mom, Barbara, married the love of her life on January 7th, 1961. They were married for 61 years until his passing on April 12th, 2022. They had enjoyed an amazing life together including square dancing, bowling and playing cards as well as other things. Our parents also wintered in Vero Beach, FL for 16 years where they made countless long-lasting friendships and built many memories. Barbara is survived by her three daughters, Jacqueline Oliver (Stanley) of Jeffersonville, NY, Patricia Holmes (William) of Darby, PA, and Elaine Lopez (Dennis) of Cornwall on Hudson, NY. She is also survived by her 13 grandchildren, Elyssa Falls, Bethany MacArthur, Joshua Holmes, Anna VanWagenen, Melodie Wray, Spencer Oliver, Caleb Holmes, Kaitlyn Holmes, Abigail Sauve, Daniel Lopez, Leah Zakorchemny, Julianne Lopez & Noah Holmes and her 18 great grandchildren. Her sisters, Dolores Vavricka of New Hampton, NY and Maxine Furman of Middletown, NY and many nieces and nephews. Barbara was predeceased by her loving husband, Richard Paffenroth, her parents, her sister Jean Babcock and brothers Fred & Burleigh Warren & her son in law Rev. William Holmes. Nothing brought our Mom as much happiness and joy as spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Our Mom was an extraordinary quilter. She made her first quilt for her granddaughter in 1988 and she continued to make every grandchild and great grandchild their own quilt. She enjoyed spending countless hours with her three daughters quilting and teaching them everything she knew about sewing. She caught the quilting bug immediately and excelled in this craft. We often found Mom either in Joann Fabrics, sitting in her favorite chair knitting or sitting at her sewing machine with her favorite being her 1940's Singer Featherweight. Barbara was a member of D&H Square Dance Club, St. John's Lutheran Church and the Slate Hill Pacers. The family would like to thank Dr. Rametta and Dr. Perry for their exceptional care for our Mom over the years as well as the staff at Hospice of Orange and Sullivan, Theresa, Suzanne, Laura & Gina. Without them we wouldn't have been able to bring our Mom home. They were with us until the end, and we could not be more grateful. We would also like to thank the nurses and doctors @ Westchester Medical Center and Garnett Health for their exceptional care Visitation hours will be held Thursday June 13th from 10am-12pm with a Funeral Service at12 pm all at St. John's Lutheran Church 391 Mt. Hope Road Middletown, NY 10940. Burial will be in Pine Hill Cemetery Town of Wawayanda, NY.
