What a wonderful life - she was a true trail blazer. Mrs. Shapiro (as she was known then) was my 4th grade teacher and she was truly inspirational, someone I have never forgotten. She instilled in her students a love of learning and of nature. Whenever her name comes up in a family discussion, we all remember scouring the neighborhood for salamanders, turtles or anything else we thought she would like. I just finished my 42nd year of teaching and she was one of my role models. My condolences to the family. May she rest in peace - I’m sure she is shaking things up in heaven!

I experienced the delight of meeting Avahlee and Andrew in their Goshen home some years ago. Avahlee was a splendid light, a super wonderful gift to the human family. The power of her goodness will shine forever.
May her family be consoled by their undoubtedly joyous and strong memories of beautiful Avahlee.

Hello. My name is Christina Kincaid. Mrs. Mitchell was my 5th grade teacher at Taft school. I loved her. She was an amazing lady. We learned alot from her, especially about animals. I also knew her 2nd husband, Andrew. I remember I found baby Bluejays at my house and she came to get them and raised them. She was a kind woman. I did try to look for her years ago but couldn't find her. My deepest sympathy to the whole family. She will surely be missed. Fly high Mrs.Mitchell. Until we meet again.

We are deeply saddened by the loss of our cherished neighbor, Avahlee, who amidst her wisdom had an adventurous spirit and heart full of generosity. Her vibrancy and charisma were unparalleled in the quarter-century we knew her. Our memory fades not; shall remain a vividly indelible presence in our hearts forever.

What a great lady. I will always remember her great voice. She lived a full life and will missed. As they say "they don't make them like her anymore." My condolences to the family. I feel very lucky to have known Avahlee and to have had her in my life for so many years. May she be at peace. Ed Connor
