When Mr. and Mrs. Baker invited you into their home, you became family! They anticipated your needs and more than met them. They fed me; teased me; let me ride their horse; showed me NYC... I will never forgot their kindness to me so many times. Our deepest sympathy to Bill, Faith, Sue, and Liz.

I often think of Mom's generosity. When we were kids, we were always welcome to bring a friend to dinner or on vacation with us. She got into deep conversations with people she just met. She had that gift of hospitality.
I also like to think of her love of nature, going to watch ducks at the pond or taking us hiking when we were kids. She loved to ride her horse and get out into an apple orchard or the woods. She passed that appreciation along to all of us.
Her faith was simple. I remember when I was very little, she said, "God is all around us and watching over us." Still true!
I'll miss her.

We will certainly miss Helen. We were very fortunate to get to know Helen in her time attending our church. It's awesome to see that she left a Godly legacy with her family.

I think George Washington said it best in his tribute to his mother when he stated: "All I am I owe to my mother. I attribute all my success in life to the moral, intellectual and physical education I received from her."
It was my mother's faithful example in her own discipline of rising early to spend time with the Lord that encourged me in my own personal walk with God. I remember coming down for breakfast and seeing her Bible open and her copy of the Daily Bread Devotional sitting there on the kitchen counter. She loved to get up and see the sun rise while meeting with God. When she said "I pray for you every day" I knew she meant it.
God used her example to lead me into my own personal walk with God. He also led me to a good Christian young lady, Faith Kunkel, would became my wife. Then He led me into full-time ministry as a pastor. I would not have chosen this path if it were not for Mom's faithful example.
I thank God for giving me a mother who gave me a godly foundation for my life. Thanks Mom.

Helen was an energetic woman who really enjoyed helping tend to the flower garden at Clayton Baptist Church. Hearing her talk about her swimming at the "Y" or riding her bike on the Ocean City boardwalk always brought a smile to my face and encouraged me to stay fit. I really appreciated how she was able to stay on budget with her limited income...and yet with very little she always gave everything she had to helping others .Although it was more difficult for her during this past year she still sang in the choir when she could. Her smile was infectious and when she greeted you on Sunday morning it was with a genuine love. Truly a beautiful woman inside and out who loved the Lord with all her heart!

We're so saddened to learn that Helen has left us, but are so happy for her that she is with Ford and rejoicing in the presence of our Lord. Helen was so special to so many people at Clayton Baptist and she knit herself deeply into the heart of the Riggs family. Steven and I were never sure why she took such a liking to our twin boys, Jared and Justin, but she did... and though they beamed with joy over the occasional and individual cards with small surprises that she'd send to them throughout the year, it blessed Steven and I most to know that she was diligently praying for them. What a gift she was to us all. As Justin prayed this morning for God's peace for Helen's family as they mourn her passing, he ended with the joyful thought that Helen's now in heaven tending to God's garden. We are deeply grateful to God for allowing us to know and share life with Helen Baker, and we extend our deepest sympathies to her family... Steven, Claire, Jared and Justin Riggs.

My mother, Helen, first and foremost, loved the Lord. An introduction to the Lord is the most important gift she gave me. I love her and am forever grateful to her for showing me what really mattered.
When Mom lost her son and her husband just two weeks apart in 2006, after taking care of them for years, her heart was broken. Though she was sad and often lonely, she preferred to live on her own rather than move near one of her three remaining children. How she loved her freedom and her ability to drive her car wherever she wanted to! She especially enjoyed driving to the beautiful parks near her home in Clayton, NJ and watching the geese and swans on the lakes while sitting in the warm sun or talking to folks she'd meet there. What she loved most was being able to go to church and joining in the worship of God with loving Christians. That was the highlight of her week. Whenever we spoke on the phone, she would say she was blessed and thanked God for His goodness to her.
When my brother, sister and I asked Mom to move near one of us so we could help her, as her health and mobility were declining, she was torn between family and her dearly loved churches. Finally, she made the move to New York to live in an apartment near me on March 7th. We went to the local restaurants together and checked out a nearby church. She met some friendly people in the building and liked the lake the apartments overlooked with lots of wildlife.
Then, sadly, she fell on March 18th and went into the hospital. It was discovered that she had aspiration pneumonia which had been developing over some time. When I explained to the doctors that I had been begging her to go to a doctor for the awful cough she'd had since October, Mom piped up and said didn't go to a doctor because she was "stubborn". She fought for her life heroically, believing she was going to get better. She still wanted to do so many things. It was horrifying to all of us that her life seemed to end so suddenly just when we were all looking forward to being closer together. But as Pastor Morgan put it, "God's timing is the best timing."
What I am left with is gratitude for the time to really talk with my mother and express my love and gratefulness for the life she gave me. I am so glad my brother and his wife, my sister, my niece and her mother, my nephew, my sister-in-law, and my neighbors were able to visit with my mother, too, so she knew she was loved by us all. One of the last things she said was, "See? We are a loving family." We will miss her wit, her love and her precious presence. Now she is with God who loves her best. Thanks again, Mom.

I will always remember Helen"s love for her Lord and Savior! She was always planting flowers, biking, swimming or serving others. We sang in the choir together and laughed at our mistakes but sang praises to our King from our hearts. I will miss her.

Dear Family,
Mother Baker was an wise, independant and loving Christian. She will be missed by her Temple Family.
May God be with you now
As you face this time of grief,
May you know the comfort of the Lord
In your darkest hour of need
Know that Jesus cares for you
When your soul is deeply pained
No matter what you may go through,
His love for you remains.

When I remember Helen, I will always think of her and Ford coming to the church pool to swim. She told me how they loved to swim because it felt so good, and how important it was to stay active. Helen had lots of good advice for me. I admired her directness and clarity of thought. Thank you, Helen, for the impact you made on my life! :)
